Biography

25 Sep 1790 born in Shenandoah, Virginia, USA Died of cholera in 1855 in Elgin, Kane, Illinois, USA on the way back to Wisconsin after a visit to Ohio with his 16-year-old grandson, also named Edward. The grandson made the rest of the return trip alone.

The son of birthright Quakers, Edward thought it was his duty to defend his country so enlisted in the War of 1812. Later he and his wife became Methodists.

Over the summer of 1843, his wife became ill and died in the fall. He married again in the following spring to Nancy Alexander.

Edward and his brothers Solomon, Benjamin and Wesley, moved from Ohio to Indiana where they lived until 1853. Then moved to near Juda, Wisconsin, across from Rock City, Illinois. They made a settlement there, named Spring Branch.
