"Just beyond the cellar of Tammy Younger, after the turn in the road which brings one in sight of Riverdale, is the cellar of the first blacksmith in town, lying beside the travelled road, but still in the roadway. Here stood the shop of Joseph Allen, who came to Gloucester in 1674, being encouraged to settle by grants of land and a common right. He had two wives and seventeen children. One of the children, also named Joseph, became very wealthy, his home being on Poplar street near the house occupied by Mr Joseph A Procter. I think the blacksmith shop must have stood by the cellar, and the cellar have been that of the house, built perhaps by Allen, but known within the memory of persons now living as the 'Noble' house, the Nobles being ancestors of numerous Riverdale people" (Mann 28-9).

I am confused by your "Sources." Vital Records of Gloucester, Massachusetts, record page for Joseph Allen leads to The Philips Family Tree on Ancestry. Across the top, Joseph's name does not occur, however his daughter Rose's does. Since that is my family tree I know enough to go to Rose and then to her father's page. Your source number "2" also does the same thing. I am going to add an image of the primary source that shows Joseph's family into the "Image" section of your Profile Page for Joseph.

The issue you encountered was not a problem with the information source. It was a problem with the Ancestry URL(s) were linked in the source citation(s). Ancestry has an annoying habit of restructuring its URL formats from time to time, with the result that URL links to Ancestry resources can suddenly go haywire. I have made slight revisions to the URLs so that they point to the specific pages originally cited, rather than to error pages or Ancestry search pages.

Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury pg 31 shows that Joseph was married to widowed Bethia. Any explanation or clarification why this Bethia was not mentioned here? https://archive.org/stream/cu31924025963772#page/n37/mode/2up/search/allen

Allen-19680 and Allen-4006 appear to represent the same person because: Born and died same day?

Griggs-617 was also attached to this profile as wife. I delinked that profile because the name "Alice Rachel Griggs" and the dates don't match the records for Joseph Allen's wife Rachel Griggs. Alice Rachel appears to be a different person.
