Edward Allen's origins and/or immigration are unknown. There are several traditions and internet "suggestions"
Born 1633 Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts
Born 1633 in Scotland; immigrated in 1658, perhaps son of Edward James Allen of London.
Came from Scotland in 1636. Savage calls this a very doubtful tradition[1] Savage had it from Farmer, who cites a letter from the Hon. Joseph C. Allen[2]
Newer compilations are repeating this same information: Scots in New England (2002)[3] and Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families[4]
Immigration to New England in the 1630s was primarily English.
If Edward came in 1636 as a child, where was his family. How come we have no knowledge of them?
If Edward came as an adult in 1636, what was he doing between 1636 and his marriage in 1658? He would have been in his fourties when he married.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:
I agree with the other comments regarding parentage. Right now it appears that Rachel who was married went back to Scotland to have an affair with James (either Edward James or James Christopher) who was also married. Like juicy stories as much as the next person but think this is off.
I am not familiar with this line, or who attached this set of parents. Look at Allen-18056, his connected father, which appears to be Edward son of James, but that Edwards wife, not mother is Mary. And he is also attached to wife Rachel. Looks like there were merges in this line without confirmation of match.
