James Hardin Allen, age 67, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at home in Asheboro following a long illness.
Born March 26, 1937, in Wadesboro, NC, he was the son of the late Fred Huntley and Margaret Hardin Allen. He attended Wadesboro High School, Mars Hill College and was graduated from North Carolina State University in 1958 with a degree in civil engineering. Following graduation, he was employed by Dickerson Construction Company, Monroe, N. C. While with Dickerson, he was in charge of the construction of the Randolph Savings and Loan building, South Asheboro Junior High School and an addition to the Stedman textile plant in Asheboro. Mr. Allen later established residence in Asheboro, where he founded his own construction company, J. H. Allen, Inc. in 1963. In 1967, Mr. Allen married the former Ruth Register of Durham and Clinton, N.C. and they have made their home in Asheboro since that time.Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Ruth, and his three children: Doug Allen and his wife Donna, of Asheboro; Ashley Allen Leonard and her husband, Keith, of Wilmington; and Scott Allen and his wife Beth, of Asheboro; his brother Dr. Fred H. Allen, Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Charlotte; his sister Missy Allen Brown and her husband Henry of Southern Pines; and grandchildren Gina, Emily and Jill Allen, Kristyn Pritchard and Seth Leonard, and Austin and Kendall Allen.
