Biography

Joseph was the son of Joseph and Alice (Polk) or Pollock Allison.[1]

According to a character sketch of his grandson, Joseph Allison, he came to Nova Scotia with his parents in 1769. [2]

Joseph married Alice Harding the daughter of a loyalist, Colonel Israel Harding and Sarah Harris. [3]

Joseph's nephew, Charles Frederick Allison, was the founder of Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.

Joseph died before 25 Feb 1807 when Letters of Administration were granted to his widow, Alice Allison. [see Images] On 23 Nov 1816 his probate was opened. [4] According to the probate records, the following were his children:

Rebecca Allison
Sarah Alice Cogswell
Israel Allison
Jonathan Allison, minor
William Henry Allison, minor
Edward Allison, minor
Mary Ann Allison, minor [4]
Note: Joseph III is not on the list, presumably because he died the same year.
