Biography

Robert Allison was reportedly born in Elizabeth City, Colony of Virginia, in 1697.[citation needed]

He was reportedly one of the early settlers of Augusta County, Virginia.[citation needed]

He married Hanna McClure.[1]

Will & Probate

He made his will in Augusta County, Colony of Virginia, on 24 July 1679. This will was proved on 15 August 1769. Chalkley's summary transcription of the will states as follows:

Robert (mark) Allison's will - - To son James, has received his part; to daughter Mary Davidson, has received her part; to son John, 10 shillings; to daughter Agness; to son robert, infant, testator's home plantation; to son, Francis, infant, 250 acres on Mill Creek; to son, Halbert, received his part already; to wife Hannah; to daughter Janet. Teste: Alexander (mark) McClure, Arthur McClure, Joseph Walker, Joseph Walker, Jr. Proved, 15th August, 1769, by all except Joseph Walker, Jr. Hannah Allison, qualifies, with Alex. and John McCluer.[2]

Research Notes

Disputed Origins

A previous version of this profile identified his parents as John Ellyson and Elizabeth Matthews. That incorrectly conflates this Robert Allison with Robert Ellison, who made his will in 1770 in Williamsburg, Province of South Carolina.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:

This profile conflates two different Robert Ellison/Allisons:

The first made his will in Williamsburg township, Province of South Carolina, on 5 November 1770 (probated 1 May 1772). His wife was Mary Lloyd/Lide, and his children were Matthew, Robert, Mary (m. Hugh Erwin), John, and Elizabeth (m. John Erwin). That Robert has a duplicate profile and is well-documented with bible & will records cited in that other profile: Robert Ellison (bef.1700-1772). His wife Mary and several of those children also appear to have duplicate profiles.

The second is a Robert Allison/Ellison who (according to the will description attributed to Chalkley in this profile) reportedly made his will in Augusta County, Virginia, on 24 July 1679, proved 15 August 1769. According to the summary of the will in this profile, that Robert's spouse was Hannah, and his children included James, Mary (Davidson), John, Agness, Robert, Francis, Halbert, & Janet. (NOTE -- I cannot find this will description on p. 232 of any of the three volumes of Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish settlement in Virginia, extracted from the original court records of Augusta County, 1745-1800 - if anyone knows what source is being referenced, please clarify).

I have added the US Southern Colonies Project as a co-manager to help clean this up. Since the Robert Ellison who married Mary Lloyd/Lide and made his will in South Carolina in 1772 already has a separate profile, I propose to make Robert Ellison the sole profile for that Robert Ellison, and revise this profile to represent only the Robert Ellison who made his will in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1769. If anyone objects to this approach, please weigh in. Thanks!

I found the Chalkley summary. It is in Vol. 3, p. 109. I have corrected the citation.

Allison-4534 and Allison-1668 appear to represent the same person because: The newer profile has much more information, but this is the same person. I just submitted a merge for his wife.
