It could be by the time Charles was an adult, the Christian Temple Manor was now a well-to-do tobacco planation, the dominant cash crop in Maryland (and Virginia), with slaves doing most of the hard labor.

Charles grew up in Maryland during a political upheaval in England known as the 'Glorious Revolution' (1688 - 1689) when Parlamentarians overthrew King James II and set up William III, Prince of Orange to be a pro-Parlament king of England.

The Provence of Maryland also had a 'Protestant Revolution' around this time as well. This was the end of Maryland's early experiments with religious toleration, as Catholicism was outlawed, and Roman Catholics were forbidden from holding public office. Religious toleration would not be restored in Maryland until after the American Revolution.

Charles certainly would have heard about the dreadful Salem Witch Trials which happened in Massachussets Colony in 1692-1693: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials

He also would have heard about the destruction of the port city of Port Royale in Jamaica in June 1692 due to a massive earthquake and a tsunami. Many thought it was the wrath of God against a sinful pirate city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1692_Jamaica_earthquake

And certainly he had experienced a few nasty hurricanes hitting the plantation during his lifetime: such as in 1667, 1683, and 1693. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atlantic_hurricanes_in_the_17th_century
