Biography

Theophilus Allison was born on 1 February 1747 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the fifth or sixth of seven children (he may have been a twin) and the third of four sons of Andrew and Anne Simonton Allison.
Theophilues died of unknown causes on 5 October 1815 at the age of sixty-eight in Troutman, Iredell County, North Carolina, and is buried in New Perth Cemetery, Troutman, Iredell County, North Carolina.[1]
C1795, when he was in his late forties, he married Sarah Simonton Allison (1748 - 1838). She bore him one known child, a daughter whom they named Amaryllis Allison Murdock Vaughn. She lived from 1796-1871.

In the name of God Amen I Theofilas Allison of the County of Iredell and State of N. Carolina being in a weak state of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following
I recommend my soul to the hands of God who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried in a (smudged word) at the discretion of my Executors and such worldly estate as I have been favoured with in this life I do give devise & dispose in the following manner (viz) I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah three negroes Cesar Hannah and Ned also the free and unlimited use privilige and possession and profits of my plantation whereon I now live & thirty two acres bought of Thos Simonton joining Thomas Crawford & Joseph Byars during her natural life. Likewise I will and bequeath unto my beloved son Robert four negroes Sam George Minah and Dolly also the four hundred dollars which is due to me for my Oconee lands lately sold and two hundred and fifty acres of land in the county joining Thomas Crawford Mathew Brown and John Caven to him and his heirs forever and the house of which he now has the name of called farmer. Likewise I will & bequeath to my daughter Kezia four negroes Rachel Philis Moses Abraham Likewise I will and bequeath unto my son Thomas Jefferson the plantation whereon I now live and thirty two acres bought of Thomas Simonton joining Thomas Crawford & Joseph Byars to be his forever after his mothers death still alowing her full right to the said land during her life also I will unto the said Thomas J. three negroes Aron Sirus and Ephraim Likewise I will and bequeath to my daughter Ann Byars fifty dollars to be paid out of my estate. As to the remainder of my estate (viz) Horses Cattle Hogs Sheep Waggon and gears with all other working tools & house hold and kitchen furniture I will unto my beloved wife Sarah to be distributed amongst my children as she thinks proper when the shall leave her. as to my money notes and Book debts the are to be equaly divided betwean my wife, Robert Synthia Kezia and Thomas J. Alison also I give my riding chair and harness unto my beloved wife Sarah I also alow all the crop on hand & in the ground to be for the support of the family & stock and Thomas J. Allison is to be made a good English scholar exclusive of his share of the estate. It is further my will that if my stock of negroes shall increase it shall be in the power of my wife to distribute them as she may thinkk propper and in case of the death of any of the above mentioned negroes there must be an alowance made to that child for the cot out of the increase of the negroes, but if the die after the get them in possession the los is not to be made up
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Sarah and son Robert to execute this my last will and testament revoking and disannuling every former will or wills in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 2 day of October 1815 Signed sealed and acknowledged in presants of

Research Notes

There are two Theophilus Allison's in the 1790 and 1800 US Census for Iredell County and only one in 1810. The other Theophilus Allison died before 1806.[3]
