English flag
Rachel (Alston) Jones has English ancestors.

Rachel Alston, was born 27 September 1747, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, to Solomon Alston (1701-1784) and Ann Nancy Hinton (1713-1785). Rachel died between 1830 and 1834, she was on the 1830 census, but not included in the 1834 will of husband Edmund Jones.[1][2]

Rachel and Edmund Jones married around 1770 in North Carolina.

From the University of North Carolina:"Edmund Jones, a most valuable citizen in his county, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Marrying MISS RACHEL ALSTON he settled as a farmer near Chapel Hill, but soon after the location of the University, removed to Chatham Co., and established himself on Ephraim's Creek, on the present line of the Cape Fear and Jadkin Valley Railroad, midway between Siler City and Ore Hill.[3][4]

Rachel's father Solomon (1701-1784) in his will left a slave and some money to Rachel and her son Alston.[2]

"Item. I bequeath to my daughter Rachel Jones, wife of Edmond Jones one negro woman named Cate with her increase now in her possession together with five pounds current money which I desire to be paide out of my estate by my executors."[2]

Children

  1. Alston Jones II (1774-1848), he was the only child of Rachel mentioned in his grandfather's Solomon Jones will.
  2. James Jones (1778-1832), married Rebekah Kirby

  5. Willie Jones (1784-1834), married Elizabeth Gee
  6. Lewis Jones (1786-1863), married Ruth Headen

Death

Rachel Alston Jones died bet 1830-1834, in Chatham County, North Carolina. Her husband Edmund Jones wrote his will in 1834. Note: looking at the census records for 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830, they all indicate that Edmund Jones had a wife that was about his same age. Where exactly does the 1800 come from that everyone has as Rachel's death date? She wasn't on her husband's will, but she seems to be alive in 1830 and died before 1834.[6][7][8][9][1]

Edmund Jones married Rachel Alston (daughter of Solomon Alston and Anne Nancy Hinton) between 1760 - 1770, Chatham, GA. They are both named in Rachel's father's (Solomon Alston) Will, dated 4 Sep 1780: "Item: I bequeth to my daughter Rachel Jones, wife of Edmond Jones, one Negro woman named Cate with her increase now in her possession together with five pounds current money which I desired to be paid out of my estate by my executors". Further information regarding this line are included in "A Royal Line" included in sources below.
