Biography
Clovis was raised in West Texas along with 12 brothers and one sister, Mary Ellen. His father was a Baptist Minister who had graduated from the Seminary in Bowling Green, Kentucky. As a young man Clovis worked as a cowboy on the famous XIT Ranch that was sold to pay for the Texas State Capitol. In later years Clovis worked as a Security Officer at the Texas State Capitol.
After WWII Clovis and his wife, Ruth, bought a small farm outside of Austin, Texas. They raised chickens, goats and hogs and had a large fruit orchard. The hogs were slaughtered and turned into ham, bacon and sausage and cured in the smokehouse. The chickens provided eggs and Sunday dinner.
Clovis was always the West Texas gentleman. He served as an Elder in their church and dressed in suit with Stetson hat with cowboy boots.
