Note

Stanley Alvis is found in fewer known records than any of his brothers. He was apparently newly wed in 1782, or for some unknown reason had no children in that year (1782, Hanover Co with 2 people). He bought property in Hanover Co in 1793 and is last seen in tax lists in Louisa Co in 1806. The only reasons to connect him with Rhody Alvis and her sons of Henrico Co are the use of the name Stanley and the problem connecting her with anyone else. Note that the Henrico Co Alvises seem to have had fewer contacts with any of the other Alvis families, except that of Forester in nearby Chesterfield Co.
The Alvis Exchange, 19-1, "The Alvis Family of Henrico Co VA"
Rhody Alvis's 1810 census in Henrico Co (21100/00101) suggests this family sketch:
*Spencer, b 1794-1800; War of 1812; m Jan 1 1817, Elizabeth Leech, Richmond VA; 1820 census Henrico Co VA: 100010/00010; not found in 1830 or 1840 census; King William Co VA tax list, 1844. Mrs Elizabeth Alvis's death in 1823 in Richmond is one of the few Alvis deaths recorded.
*Peter M, b ca 1800; 1820 census Baltimore Co MD: 001200/10210 (same Peter? The Henrico Co Peter is missing in 1820 and MD Peter is never seen again. If he's the same, who are the other people? boarders? servants? family?); m Sep 2 1824, Mrs Mary Walkley, Henrico Co VA; 1830 Richmond VA: 000001?
*Another man, probably from a Hanover Co family, was Meredith Alvis in Hanover Co VA tax lists: 1827, 28, m Jul 24 1827, Polly Wright, Henrico Co VA, 1830 census New Kent Co VA: 110001/10001, 1840 Henrico Co VA, d Aug 11 1849, bur Richmond VA. Always in the Alvis family, it is necessary to consider that one man may have had two names and used them interchangeably. Peter's widow was the Mrs Mary Alvis whose daughter Rebecca married in 1845. Mary W Alvis was married in 1851?Peter's or Meredith's widow or another daughter?
*Stephen Alvis, surety at marriage of Sarah Hais (Alvis?) 1817, Henrico Co VA; not found in 1830 or 1840 census. Since Stephen never shows up other than once as surety, maybe he was Meredith Stephen, or Stephen may have been an error for Spencer.
*Daughter Sarah, who m 1817.
So, who was Rhody Alvis? Or more importantly, who was Rhody's husband? What Alvis man was old enough to have sons born ca 1790? There are two options: one of the younger of the Revolutionary-War-generation men, whose wife and family are unaccounted for. This means George or Stanley. Or, one of the eldest sons of the elder men in this generation, possibly a son of John Sr or Forrester. Note that while most Alvis families used the same names, this one used totally different names.
The Alvis Exchange, 37-2: Lindsey Britton downloaded and sent the following from Old Houses of Hanover Co VA, pp. 131-132. "Little Garden"
Little Garden is a short distance from Route 33 between Montpelier and the Louisa County line. This land was originally within the boundaries of the large Morris crown grant which included the Taylor's Creek estate, Canterbury, and Clazemont. Named for the small garden that once surrounded the house, Little Garden, despite architectural changes, has retained most of its 18th century frame construction including much of the original ironwork. Legend says that the first owner, named Jones, was a blacksmith. The earliest tax records show that Walter Chisolm sold the property in 1793 to Stanley Alvis. In 1802, Alvis sold the house and 1011/2 acres to Thomas and Susanna Carver.
