From the Thomas, Oklahoma, newspaper:
William E. Alvis, prominent farmer and aged 56 years, 10 months and 12 days, died Monday night at 11 o'clock at his home four miles southwest of this city. Death was caused by an attack of diabetes.
Mr. Alvis had been in feeble health for the last year, though his condition did not become alarming until about a week ago when he became worse suddenly and lapsed into a comatose condition Sunday night about 12 o'clock. The deceased came to this country 32 years ago. He was united in the bonds of holy wedlock to Miss Effie Falen in Kansas, having been married only a short time preceding his moving from Kansas to Oklahoma.
A wife and six children, three daughters, Misses Sadie Alvis, trained nurse, Altus; Leona, Guthrie; and Susie at home, and three sons, [Elmer], Chester and Floyd are left to mourn the husband and father's untimely demise. Mr Alvis is also survived by a brother, Edward, who resides near Bridgeport, and a sister, Cora, a resident of Illinois. Miss Leona Alvis arrived here Monday from Guthrie and Sadie from Altus reaching here about 5 minutes before her father passed over the great divide from whence none returneth. Owing to sickness in Edward Alvis's household, he was unable to attend his brother's funeral.
Funeral services were held at Bethany Church Tuesday afternoon, 3 o'clock, conducted by Bishop D.R. Eyster. The remains were laid to rest in Bethany Cemetery.
