Aloysius was eldest of six children of Eduard and Theresia Alzheimer (Theresia was sister of Eduard's first wife, who died of puerperal fever)
1883, Aloysius, age 19, entered medical school at University of Berlin. 1888, age 24, intern at Frankfurt Mental Asylum
Married Cecilie Simonette Nathalie Geisenheimer, widow of Otto Geisenheimer, on 14 Feb 1895. Cecilie died 1901 with 3 young children.
In August 1912, Alzheimer fell ill on train on his way to University of Breslau, where he had been appointed professor of psychiatry in July 1912. Most probably he had a streptococcal infection and subsequent rheumatic fever leading to valvular heart disease, heart failure and kidney failure. He did not recover completely from this illness. He died of heart failure on 19 Dec 1915, age 51, in Breslau, Silesia (present-day Wrocław, Poland). Buried on 23 Dec 1915 next to his wife at the Frankfurt Main Cemetery.
