Biography

Joseph Ambler arrived in Australia in 1865 on the General Caulfield (Reel 2140, [4/4789]; Reel 2483, [4/4989]), with his children:

William Ambler aged 19, i.e., born 1846 Thomas Ambler aged 17, i.e., born 1848. Presumably this is Thomas Hutchinson Ambler. Annie Ambler aged 16, i.e., born 1849 Llewellyn Ambler aged 14, i.e., born 1851

Details from the shippings list is as follows:

Joseph Ambler arrived in Australia on the General Caulfield on 12 October 1865. He listed his occupation as maltot?a, parents William and Mary both deceased, native place Leeds Yorkshire, England, Church of England, could read and write, his 2nd wife Grace Ambler was living in the Colony at Hargreaves, NSW. He was of good health and had no complaints about the voyage.

Also on the General Caulfield was William, son of Joseph (above) and Amelia (deceased), aged 19 a druggist of Leeds Yorkshire, England. William could read and write, was Church of England, and had a step mother, Grace Ambler, in the Colony. He was of good health and had no complaints about the voyage.

Also on the General Caulfield was Thomas, son of Joseph (above) and Amelia (deceased), aged 17 a printer of Leeds Yorkshire, England. Thomas could read and write, was Church of England, and had a step mother, Grace Ambler, in the Colony. He was of good health and had no complaints about the voyage.

Also on the General Caulfield was Annie, son of Joseph (above) and Amelia (deceased), aged 16 a domestic servant of Leeds Yorkshire, England. Annie could read and write, was Church of England, and had a step mother, Grace Ambler, in the Colony. He was of good health and had no complaints about the voyage.

Also on the General Caulfield was Llewellyn, son of Joseph (above) and Amelia (deceased), aged 14 of Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. Thomas could read and write, was Church of England, and had a step mother, Grace Ambler, in the Colony. He was of good health and had no complaints about the voyage

Joseph Ambler died 1896, parents unknown, registered Rylstone 3939/1896. Burial information currently not found. It has yet to be confirmed this Joseph Ambler is the same as the Joseph Ambler above.
