Biography

Catharine Salome Ambrose was born in Germany about 1725.[citation needed]

Her father, Mathias, arrived on the ship "Pleasant" at the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1732. The Pleasant had departed Rotterdam with a stop at Deal. [1] [2]

The ship records, only list males and give us no indication if her mother, Maria Elisabetha Wilhide, who died prior to 11 Oct 1732 or while aboard the ship. She is not listed afterward. Also, the records do not tell us if he had an infant daughter with him, who would have been Catherine Salome, born 1726 in Germany/Alsace.

Catherine married Johannes Weller at Frederick, Maryland, USA in 1743. [3]

Johannes and Catherine had 13 children while in Maryland.[citation needed]

Johannes joined the German Battalion, Continental Troops, 6th Company Commanded by Capt. George P Keeports, on 03 Mar 1776. [4] [5] Johan (John) served as a teamster. [6] He served a six month enlistment, earning a land grant in Kentucky. Unfortunately, he died before he could take up the grant.

Catherine is the only one of her siblings mentioned by name in her father Mathias Ambrose's will; he stated that he had previously given his other children their shares of his estate. [7]

After the death of her husband, Johannes "John" Weller, Catherine and all but the two eldest children migrated from Frederick Co, Maryland to Bardstown, Nelson Co KY in 1792. [6]

She died about 1792, at Botland, about 3 miles east of Bardstown, Kentucky, and it is believed, but it is not not certain, she is buried at the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Botland, Nelson County, Kentucky. Her grave has not been found. [8]
