  • #103407591), father of Ambrose Lee (and William Lee Jr.), left a will in Amelia County, Virginia (1770; page 328). In it he names "Rachel my dearly beloved wife"... and children ... "to wit Elizabeth Clarke, Mary Walden, Ann Bennet, William Lea, Sarah Penn, Joseph Lea, Andrew Lea, Milly Dudley, Lucy Lea and John Lea and my son Ambrose Lea's (dec'd) children being seven in number. Just a few years prior to his father's death in 1764, the deceased son, Ambrose Lea (xref F.A.G. #103340960), had left his will in Amherst County, VA (Will Book 1, pages 44 thru 47). He named "my Loving Wife" and children "Son Frank", "Son George", "Son Richard" and "Daughters Elizabeth, Jeane, Suckey, and Nancy" - seven in number. It is the same number given in grandfather William Lea's record. Executors of Ambrose's will were: "My beloved Wife, George Penn, William Lee, and Gabl Penn".

I'm not sure her parentage makes any geographical sense. The parents you have listed have no association whatsoever with Virginia. The Lee/Lea family is closely associated with the Penn Family of Virginia as well as the Callaway and Flemming families. Her daughter Sarah (by William Lee) married George Penn II, George Penn's brother Gabriel (my 4th ggf) married Sarah Callaway and Ambrose Lee married Frances Penn. All three Penns were the children of George Penn and Anne Fleming. All these families are found in Amelia and Bedford during this period and nothing connects them to New England. It simply seems impossible that Rachel (called Elizabeth by her family) could be the daughter of this Nathaniel Ambrose.
