Biography

Elizabeth Amey daughter of Richard Amey and his wife, Jane Randall, was baptised at Cranborne in Dorset on the 27th of July 1765. [1]

She married John Andrews at Horton with Woodlands, some five miles from Cranborne, on the 24th of December 1788. [2]

Research Notes

An Elizabeth Andrews was buried at St Wolfrida, Horton 23 January 1815 [3]. This is possibly this Elizabeth, widow of John Andrews, moved back to her home town, but it may also be Elizabeth nee Haskell, wife of Thomas Andrews of Horton who was of a similar age.

Other possible candidate for spouse is John Andrews , baptised in Cranborne 1763. No certain burial found for him.

Currently the answer is not known. Could be either which is why the merge has been put on hold. Any help in concluding this would be very welcome.

It is possible that the 1841 citation actually has nothing to do with John and Elizabeth Andrews of Horton and refers to a completely different John Andrews. John Andrews may have moved the 20 miles to Gillingham when he retired, but there is a John Andrews known to be living in Gillingham who is a more likely candidate for the 1841 census. These records may be pertinent:

John Andrews married Ann Jeans of Silton 11 Feb 1793 in Gillingham

Ann Andrews was buried 20 June 1794 in Silton

John Andrews was a master cordwainer living in Gillingham in 1806 (Apprenticeship record of Eli Tabor to John Andrews)

John Andrews married Elizabeth George 8 Nov 1807 in Gillingham

1841 census (above) John Andrews born c1766 out of County

GRO death record 1848 D Quarter in SHAFTESBURY Volume 08 Page 57, John Andrews aged 82.

1851 census (HO107/1851/355/9) shows Elizabeth Andrews, aged 75, widow, sister of Mary George, living in Gillingham
