He married Jessie Murray circa 1854 in Ontario. They were the parents of son John; daughters Margaret, Jessie, Amy, Mary, and Elizabeth.
He appears on the 1881 Ontario Census in N. Easthope as follows: Farmer, age 56, born Scotland, Canada Presbyterian. Wife Jessey 49. Children: Margaret 25 (married); Jessey 21; Amy 17; Mary 15; John 12; Elizabeth 9 (all born Scotland).
