After his family moved to Fröå (1870), he worked in the copper mine there. In Fröå he married Anna Hilina Blom (May 4, 1861- Apr. 21, 1895). They had two children, Brita Kristina and Anders Gustaf, by the time that they decided to emigrate from Sweden to Minnesota in 1884. From late 1884 to about 1896/99, Nils worked in the Breitung mine; the family lived in the “company town” of Breitung, where their four younger children, Oscar and William (twins), Anna, and Frederick Arvid, were born. Sometime between 1896 and 1899, Nils established a homestead on the Rice River. In 1920, he sold the farm to Hans and Mabel Forsline, but kept a few acres for himself and built a retirement home, where he lived with his youngest son Arvid until the time of his death (at home) on Sept. 5, 1929. He was buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Tower, and reburied in Angora Hillside Cemetery after the Tower cemetery was closed.
