Biography

Monroe, New Jersey

Catharine Anderson[1][2] was born the 27th of July 1771 in Monroe, New Jersey.[1][2] She was the daughter of John and Anna (Lloyd) Anderson.[2][3] Catharine married Robert Perrine,[3][4] of South Amboy,[5][6][7] on the 28th of April 1791.[2] Robert and Catharine started their family in South Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey. Although they lived in South Amboy,[7] they traveled over ten miles to attend church in Tennant. [8] within the Manalapan Township in Monmouth, New Jersey.[9] Monmouth having been the site of the longest land battle of the Revolutionary War,[9] had settled into a quieter place by the time they had their first child, Anne.[10]

At the turn of the century Robert and Catharine had three more daughters (Peggy, Elizabeth and Mary), and now had a household size of six.[2][3][11] Over the next ten years they added little Catharine,[12] John Lloyd,[13] Joseph[14] and William Craig Perrine[15] to the family. They now had a bustling household of ten. Robert Jr was born in the fall of 1812, and woefullly died the following spring.[2][3] Their final child, another Robert Jr,[16] was born in the spring of 1814. This completed their family of eleven.

In 1850, Catherine was living in Rochester, New York, with her son Robert.[1] She was seventy-nine years old according to that census record.[1] Robert Jr was working as a plow maker, and his wife Sarah was taking care of their three children and the home.[1]

Catharine died on the 31st of May in 1851,[2][3] of old age.[17] Her husband Robert had predeceased her in 1824.[2][3] According to the family histories, they were both laid to rest in the Tennant Churchyard.[2][3] Her tombstone, however, is found in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester,[18] where she had recently resided with her son.[1]

South Amboy, Middlesex, NJ incorporated in 1798
Freehold Township, Monmouth, NJ established 1693
Manalapan Township, Monmouth, NJ formed 1848 from Freehold Township
  • I'm not sure if they traveled to Tennant to attend church, or they later moved there and so the church baptized them and included their birth records in the church records.
