RATTS, Margaret L. (age 96), former Colfax resident, passed away October 10, 2007 in Walla Walla, WA. She was born February 10, 1911 in Adrian, ND to John G. and Lydia Heck Anderson.

Margaret grew up in Adrian, ND and attended school there. She worked on the family farm and also helped other families during harvest. Margaret married John M. Ratts on June 5, 1935 in North Dakota and they moved to Pinehurst, ID in the early 1940’s. They moved to Colfax in 1946, where they lived at the Freshland Farms, where John was the foreman. Following John’s death on May 30, 1951, Margaret moved the family into town and she became a full time mother and homemaker as well as beginning a career in the dry cleaning industry, working in Colfax until retiring. Since 1967, she has lived with her children, spending time wherever they were living. Margaret spent years helping to raise her grandchildren.

Her interests included her family, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading and handiwork. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Margaret had a servant’s heart.

Margaret is survived by her three children, Hazel (Richard) Kincaid of Seattle, WA, Frances “Fran” (Aubrey Lee) Chase of Walla Walla, WA, and Joan (Bob) Samuelson of Olympia, WA; her sister, Lois Koch of Rushville, Indiana; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 4 PM at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax, WA is caring for the family. ^[1]
