Inga was born in 1805, - after her husband Thomas Stout died in 1859, Inga aged 57, her son William , aged 29, his wife Barbara, and Inga's four daughters - , Margaret, Catherine, Mary Marjory and Helen, emigrated to New Zealand on the ship 'Brothers Pride" leaving London 23rd July 1863 and arriving in Lyttelton 10 December 1863. ... 44 People aboard the ship, Brothers Pride, Captain Sproul, including the child of William and Barbara Stout, had died during the voyage, mostly because of scarlitina and typhus, and the ship was placed in quarantine initially.
Sadly Inga's daughter Margaret died on board on 21st November 1863.
During those years the New Zealand government was actively recruiting families with daughters from the Shetland Islands, and their fare would have been paid from the Shetland Islands to New Zealand.
It was a courageous bid for the survival of her family following the death of her husband.
She passed away in 1892. [1]
