8Selma Anderson (1885-1974) was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of Northwestern Hospital, Princeton, Minnesota. Training School for Nurses Certificate dated May 1, 1915. She took a twelve-month special course at Minneapolis City Hospital and was awarded a certificate dated Aug. 1, 1918, for “Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Tuberculosis, Contagious Diseases, and Dietetics.” She served as a nurse in the U.S. Army (1918-1919). For over 25 years, she was a nurse at the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, Minneapolis. Selma retired Jan. 1, 1956. She suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and was an invalid during the last years of her life. She was able to remain in her home because her sister Helen, a retired nurse, cared for her. Selma was a half-sister: she was Christine Westblade’s daughter before her marriage to Anders.
