Biography

Thomas, the son of John Anderson and his wife, Anne Battison, was baptised on 8 March 1724 at Kilham ^[1] where he married Dorothy Jordan on 6 March 1849. ^[2]

Thomas died at Kilham on 6th April 1809 and was buried at Kilham All Saints on the 9th. His entry in the register says "the elder widower and farmer". ^[3]

"In memory of Dorathy wife of Thomas Anderson who departed this life the 9th of October 1800 aged 73 years. Now shall the Church rejoice. A joyful mother prove And all her children raise their voice To find Jehovah's love. Also to the memory of Thomas Anderson who departed this life the 6th of April......................." ^[4]

4. ↑ Monumental Inscriptions All Saints, Kilham. NOTE We found this headstone many years ago before we even knew who Thomas was. Later when we visited All Saints again it was not there. We found it by chance in the yard of Messrs Gardiner monumental masons just across the road from Bridlington cemetery where someone had taken it for safe keeping. That must have been about a decade ago so where it now is we cannot say. C. Mackinnon.
