Biography

From Find a Grave: "John was born on November 28, 1920. In Pueblo Colorado to Emil Fabian Anderson and Nannie Cecelia Peterson. All through his school years he was frequently on the honor roll. His mother would get books from the library and read extensively to her children. When he graduated from Central High School in he was a member of the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. After graduating from High School, John got a job with CF&I, (Colorado Fuel and Iron Company). It was an office job in the inspections department. He was sent to a 15 week course at Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado for a course in Metallurgy of Iron and Steel. He was determined to further his career at CF&I and was an aggressive student and hard worker. John married Betty May Ellifritt on January 17, 1941. By the time WWII was upon us John had worked up to the Price Approval Office with the company. However he was drafted into the US NAVY and entered service Nov. 11, 1943. CF&I gave him Military leave. He was sent to Farragut, Idaho for basic training, then to Norman Oklahoma where he became Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class. Next posting was to St. Charles Missouri, near Saint Louis and he became Aviation Machinist 1st Class. He was then transferred to Oak Cliff , Texas and held the rank of Chief Petty Officer until the end of the War , January 26, 1946. John's wife Betty lived with him at his various postings during the war even though accommodations were very hard to find. After his years in the Navy, CF&I had his job waiting for him. John was happy to be back at his old company and ready to begin his career with them.

John was transferred to the Corporate offices of CF&I in Denver Colorado in August of 1952. John was moving up, and the degree made a big difference in his salary and prospects for a higher position with the company. He graduated in the upper 10% of his class again with a bachelors degree in Business Administration. By 1958 he was Manager of Product Planning, and shortly after that made General Manager Western Sales. In 1970 Manager of Wire Product Sales, 1973, General Manager of Steel Sales for the entire company, its warehouses and other mills in the USA. The Steel industry started to decline due to imported steel and the company moved the corporate offices back to Pueblo. John retired from the company in 1973 after 41 years. Even during John's climb to success with the company, he always had time for his family. They were active members of the Methodist Church, John coached his sons Little League Baseball team, took his family on wonderful summer vacations to Disneyland, San Francisco, New Mexico, and other fun filled fishing trips around the state of Colorado. John loved to fish and also played golf . He and his wife Betty attended many company conventions and meetings all over the United States. John and Betty lived in several homes during their marriage and John always had an immaculate and beautiful yard, He always had beautiful roses which he tended to himself, and his favorite rose was the PEACE variety. John and Betty loved to travel and visited many foreign countries, some of which are Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Canada, Bahamas, as well as Hawaii, and most of the states in the USA. When John and Betty were about 60 years old, Betty's mother came to live with them in Denver. In 1984 they all three moved to Montrose Colorado which is on the Western slope of Colorado. There they enjoyed some wonderful years and were very active in local clubs like the Archeological Society, Historical Society and Senior Corps of Retired Executives. They finally moved to Grand Junction, Colorado after Betty's mother died. John had a heart attack in May of 1990, shortly after he finished his participation in the recording of the 1990 census project for the Grand Junction area. He lived for another year and died on April 15, 1991. His ashes were scattered on one his favorite spots in the state, Hahn's Peak, a place the family went fishing just north of Steamboat Springs Colorado."
