Biography

Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson was born about 1745. Here birth location and parents are not known at this time. Betsy married Sgt. Joseph Barber before 1768. One known child, Joseph Barber Jr. was born in Bennington VT in the late 1760s. Although her death date is unknown, her husband and his second wife named a daughter Betsy. Her connection to the Anderson family in Pownal (who were Tories and resettled in Ontario) is highly probable but so far unproven. A deed to Joseph Barber Sr. from Benjamin Anderson predates the Revolutionary War, and is the best evidence found as to Betsy's identity. --Carolyn Adams
