Brigadier General Stuart Milligan Anderson DSO was born on 23rd September 1879 at Kensington, London, England.[1][2]
He married Alexandra Janesco in 1914 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.[3]
He served in the British Army. He was seconded to the Australian Imperial Force in 1914, embarking for the Middle East aboard Shropshire on 20th October 1914.[4] His bride embarked for England about the same time; her address throughout the war being The Knowle, Swanage, Dorset, England. Stuart served as commander of the 1st Australian Division Artillery throughout the war.[5][6] For his services during the war he was Mentioned in Despatches, appointed Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (United States) and Legion of Honour (France). His younger brother, Kenneth, also served in the British Army during the First World War.
After retiring from the army, he made his home at Harry Warren House, Studland, Dorset.
