William died of cancer of the stomach and liver , He is buried in Rookwood Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth & Elizabeths daughter Amy from her first marriage . Amys male companion was buried next to her. Unfortunately there is no headstone for this lot something the family hopes to rectify .

William purchased 3 blocks of land from the crown and was living at Cockatoo Flat in 1869. In 1881 he was stated as a farmer at Pretty Plains. William was publican of the Andersons Hotel in Wellington from 1895-1906. The hotel is now called the Wellington Hotel. Most of the family lived in the hotel during their stay. After leaving Wellington he was listed as License of Masonic Hotel Petersham 1910-12.
