Biography

Florence Emily May ANDERSON b. 1 Dec 1875 in Botany & Waverley Streets, Waverley, NSW, Australia, (W W Spencer [accoucheur] and Mrs Ainsworth [nurse]), resided 22 Aug 1897 in Grand Hotel, London, England,52 d. ?? in Unknown. She married (1) William Harvey Chapman (Harvey) LOVELY, 22 Aug 1897 in St Michael's Church, Middlesex, London, England,52 (the groom was a 25 year old bachelor, the bride a 21 year old spinster, the officiating Minister John Oswald Murray and the witnesses H A [sp?] Zoller and R H Coker [sp?]) Florence and her husband were involved in an accident which was reported as follows:

ACCIDENT TO COLONELS STUART AND LOVELY. - Our special representative telegraphed from Sydney on Thursday as follows:

South Australians were much concerned when it became known that both Colonel Stuart and Colonel Lovely had been rather seriously injured. They had been on a visit to the Admiral, and were being driven out to pay some more calls, when the brake of the vehicle got jammed, and the horse became frightened and bolted. The result was that the trap was overturned, and the occupants thrown out on to the road. Colonel Lovely sustained an injury to his thigh, one of the sinews being severely strained, and he will be unable to leave his bed for some time. Colonel Stuart received a slight concussion, and some cuts about the face. There were grave reports at first about his condition, but the latest bulletin is to the effect that he is progressing favourably. General Gordon accompanied by Major Beach called on Thursday to see the patients, and there were numerous enquiries from the camp as to their welfare. There were also in the trap at the time of the accident Mr. W. H. C. Lovely, a son of Colonel Lovely, and his wife. The former was considerably shaken, but Mrs. Lovely fortunately escaped with a few scratches. The driver was uninjured, but the trap was smashed to pieces. The sufferers are now at Woodlands, Mr. Lovely's residence

Hi Mike, I am wondering if the Florence Anderson in your WikiTree is the same Florence Emily May Anderson that I have in my tree. Daughter of George Anderson and Emily (or Emma) Bell. 3 brothers (George William, Alexander Ernest and sadly, one of whom died an infant (Arthur John). https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NVJV-X24 is the marriage record I have for her marrying my Great Grandfather, William Harvey Chapman Lovely. He was a mining engineer/entrepreneur and worked in the Gold Mining Industry. At one point (before they left for South Africa), they were living at "Cranbrook" in Bellevue Hill/Rose Bay (NSW) and had a little girl, Gwendolyn Harvey Lovely who very sadly died as an infant. I don't think their marriage lasted much longer after that, as I have found Divorce details on the South African National Archives site and her later remarriage (1905) to Frederic James Andrew Fraser (unfortunately they divorced within 12 months of this marriage). Your note is very interesting - we have some family "lore" that says WHC Lovely was a millionaire who somehow lost his fortune (aligns with where they were living in 1898-1900 at Cranbrook - but also explains perhaps why he sold all the furniture/goods in March 1900? Maybe they both lived a little too high for their means? (http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14298882?searchTerm=%22Lovely%22%22cranbrook&searchLimits=). Florence's first husband, my Great Grandfather, repartnered and later had 6 children to this partnership. Scandalously (for that era), they were not married and we only found their marriage record recently (1951 in Brisbane). Do you think that "your" Florence Anderson" and my "Florence Anderson" are the same person? Cheers, Timna The sender, Timna Green (timna70@gmail.com)
