Mary Anne Anderson was born about 1799[1], the third daughter of John Anderson and Jane Den Roche. [2]
Mary Anne married Charles Henry Abbot on 26 June 1835 in the Diocese of Ossory.[3]Two newspaper announcements confirm this marriage.
The first appeared in the Kentish Gazette, Tuesday 21 July 1835; it read,
Chas Henry, son of William Abbot, esq. of the Limes, Canterbury, to Marianne, third daughter of John Anderson, esq. of Prospect, County Kilkenny.[4]
The second from the South Eastern Gazette provided more information, particularly in terms of the venue of the ceremony;
The 25th ult., at Burnchurch, Charles Henry, son of William . Esq., of the Limes, Canterbury, to Marianne, third daughter Anderson, Esq., Prospect, county Kilkenny.[5]
Burnchurch Church, Kilkenny - as it looks today. It was used up until the 1940s. |
Mary Anne and Charles had at least two children. According to an announcement in The Kentish Gazette, 04 September 1838, Mary Anne had a daughter on 13 August 1838 at "Ardalou (sic?) Cottage, Kilkenny".[6]This was a reference to their daughter, Letitia Abbot. Then in the Limerick Newspaper, an announcement of the birth of a son on 7 April 1841. An assumption has been made that this was a reference to Mary Anne's son Radcliffe Abbot.[7] Please note that this may be subject to change if further information arises. Mary Ann's Gravestone |
Mary Anne passed away on 27 July 1877, at 77 years of age.[8] She was buried at Christ Church, Tramore, County Waterford, on the South Coast of Ireland.
A gravestone was erected by her son-in-law Martin Keane. The inscription is spaced on the headstone as follows,

The sweet rhyme, deserved to be written out as it would be spoken.
