William was born in 1822. He is the son of Henry Anderson and Laetitia Abbott. He died in 1855. [1]

He was appointed to the medical staff at Chatham 28 February 1845 and served with the 51st Regiment as Assistant Surgeon in the Burmese War 1852-1853, Burmese Medal and Clasp (Pegu).
Served with the 41st Regiment as Surgeon-Major in the Crimean War 1854 - 1855. Crimean Medal and three Clasps (Savastapol, Inkerman and Alma) . Also Turkish Medal.
Died, unmarried, of typhus at Balaclava and is buried there.

In 1845 William was Assistant Surgeon at Chatham. In 1855 a report of his death is found 'at the harbour at Balaklava of Typhus Fever, William Abbot Anderson, Surgeon 41st regiment, 3rd son of Lt Col. Henry Anderson, Fort Amherst Chatham'

Crimea Memorial The foundation stone for a memorial to those Medical Officers who lost their lives in the Crimea was laid at the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley Southampton, on 1 Aug 1864. The names of the deceased were recorded on seven panels, with the eighth panel bearing the following inscription:
In memory of the Officers of the Army Medical Department who died whilst serving with the Army in the East, during the war with Russia in 1854, 1855, 1856. This monument has been erected by their brother officers and friends.
