Jonathan was believed to be the son of William Anderson, born in Pennsylvania, and Hannah or Jennett, possibly surname Mebane. Hannah may be the same as Mebane-33.
He married Catherine Snook, daughter of Mathias Snook of Allegany county, Maryland, probably before 1784 (birth of eldest known child). A marriage record has not been located. The marriage relationship is known from land patent records for the land patents of Mathias Snook, deceased, of Allegany county, MD, which lists daughter Catherine, wife of Jonathan Anderson of Kentucky.[1]
In 1790 and 1791, Jonathan Anderson was recorded as paying a tithe in Nelson county, Kentucky.[2]
In 1810, Jonathan and family were in Grayson county, Kentucky. The household included 1 male older than 45 (presumably Jonathan), 1 female older than 45 (assumed to be Catherine), one male 10-15, one male under 10, one female 16-25, one female 10-15, and three females under ten. They were living next to Benjamin Deweese (assumed to be Benjamin Franklin Deweese, husband of Jonathan and Catherine's daughter Anna).[3]
In 1820, they were still in Grayson.[4] The household contained one male over 45 (Jonathan), one 16-25 (probably son Isaac Anderson), one female over 45, one 26-44, two 16-25, two 10-15, and one under ten.
In 1830, Jonathan's household in Grayson consisted of one male 60-69, one female 20-29, and one female 15-19.[5] He was living near the household of son Isaac Anderson, also listed on that census page.
Jonathan passed away in 1831 in Grayson county, Kentucky.
