ANDREW Edgar H Death notice 13AUG1944 Death 82 late of Mosman Sydney Morning Herald 14AUG1944

  • grave[6] italics below

When Edgar Henry Andrew's Will was sealed in London in 1947 his death date was recorded as 13 Aug 1944. I have not inspected any inscription or viewed his death Registration details, but presume that the Executors, his sons, provided the English authorities with the appropriate papers.

Edgar H Andrew was Captain Edgar Henry Andrew, b. Penzance, Cornwall, 17 Sep 1861 ; d. 13 Aug 1944, Mosman, NSW. Burial details given are correct. The inscription on his tombstone reads: 'Captain of the ship 'Cromdale.' b. 17 Sep 1861. Ancient Mariner.' His late wife, Sarah West 'Tute' Andrew, nee Hill, b. 24 Jan 1872 • Broughton Creek, Shoalhaven, NSW, d. 6 Feb 1967 • Mosman, NSW, was buried with her husband. Their death and burial details were Noticed in Sydney Newspapers in the week of their deaths. Their son Eric was their Executor and my erstwhile father-in-law.'

OLD SHIPMATES HARMONISE

MARINERS' REUNION A MUSICAL ONE

At the Ancient Mariners' League's annual harbor trip and luncheon on board the Burra-Bra[4] on Saturday, musical talent was not lacking.

Captain S. Phillips, of Burns, Philp, and Co., Ltd., is recognised as "hon. musical director." Prominent among ills vocalists was Captain McKenzie, marine superintendent of Scott Fell and Co., Ltd. Perhaps the perfect harmonies in chanties they contrived between them can be better understood when It is known that they are both products of the "Port Jackson," one-time pride of Sydney Harbor. Captain E. H. Andrews and Captain Howell, were two more of the party, whose friendship went well back to the days of tall masts and broad canvas. Captain Howell served before the mast under Captain Andrews, in the old Cromdale.[5]
