Emma was born in 1835, the daughter of James Andrews and Mary Anne Whitcombe. She was baptised on the 06 December 1835 at St. Philip and St. Jacob, Bristol, Gloucester, England.[1]
In 1848, Emma and her family boarded the barque Palmyra at Plymouth as assisted emmigrants. They arrived at Port Phillip on the 19 July 1848. The passenger list included:
James Andrews, aged 40, occupation - labourer, religion - Wesleyan.
Mary Ann Andrews (nee Whitcombe), aged 42.
Elizabeth Andrews, aged 18, occupation - housemaid.
Anne Andrews, aged 16.
James Andrews, aged 13.
Emma Andrews, aged 12.
Richard Andrews, aged 11.
Esther Andrews, aged 9.
William Andrews, aged 7.[2]
In 1854, Emma Andrews married Boswell Carnegie Black.[3]
