Albert Andrews Died of Wounds during World War I.


Albert was born in 1890. He was the son of Edwin Andrews and Annie Eden. [1]He passed away in 1916 age 26 [2]

Albert Andrews served in the NZ Army during World War I, Service number 11594. A farmer in civilian life he gave his next of kin as Edwin Andrews (father), Brightwater, Nelson. He embarked 01 May 1916 from Wellington, arriving into Suez, Egypt 9 June 1916 aboard HMNZT 51 the vessel " Ulimaroa" He was a Private with the 12th Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company, He died of wounds 21 September 1916 in France and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France ref XVI. A. 10. . He is memorialized on the War Memorials at Brightwater and Spring Grove. Two of Albert's brothers, John Horace (6/3603) and George Howard (15464) also served in World War 1. [3]
