Biography

Leonard F Angell -- Coventry

Angell, Leonard "Pop" F., 89, of Arnold Road died Nov 20th, 2008, at the Kent County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Angell was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Cranston to the late Leonard F. Angell, Sr. and Elizabeth Collins. He served his country honorably as a U.S Army sharp shooter deployed in the Guadalcanal Campaign during the early stages of World War II. After his discharge, Leonard was employed as a painter of the Providence-Worcester Railroad and then later joined General Dynamics as a painter in Groton, CT. He lived in Cranston for 45 years before moving to Coventry in 1961. In retirement, he enjoyed many activities including walking his dogs, a dedicated member to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and fishing where he still holds the Rhode Island State record for the largest White Catfish weighing 16lbs 12oz. Mr. Angell was a man of honor and dignity with a strong commitment to his family. He lived a very modest life always giving more to this world than what we would take out. He is eternally grateful for Cornerstone Adult Services for the care, and support he received in the later part of his life. He is survived by his son, Michael Angell Sr.; three grandchildren; Michael and Mark Angell and Melissa Szarko; and two great grandchildren; Jordan and Makayla Szarko. His family wrote: "Pop's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to everyone that he encountered. He lived his life with integrity, bravery and was always the one you could count on when the times were tough." A private service was held Monday Nov. 24, 2008 at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, interment was in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter with full military honors.
