James Angell was born about 1651, son of Thomas Angell who came to New England on the ship Lyon in 1631, and settled at Providence, Rhode Island in 1636, and his wife Alice. [1][2][3][4][5]
1676: August 14: In King Philip's War, with attacks by the Indians increasing, most inhabitants left Providence, but brothers James and John Angell stayed behind with Roger Williams in an attempt to protect the 30 or so houses and properties. Much of this was burned by the Indians.[3][4]
1679: July 1: James was taxed at the rate of 7 1/2d. [3]
1687: His rateable estate included: a share of meadow; 7 cows, 2 oxen, 1 bull, 4 two year old cattle, 1 three year old, 1 sow, 1 horse. [3]
1687: September 1: Taxed with his father Thomas at the rate of 5s 8d. [3]
In his father's will, written on May 23, 1685, and proved on Sept. 18, 1694, James inherited the dwelling lot, homestead and house lot, and other property including all Thomas' meadows, 20 acres near Hawkins Cove, half the commons right, 6 acre lot, 10 acre lot, and other land rights. [4][3]
He married Abigail Dexter, daughter of Rev. Gregory and Alice (Fullerton) Dexter on September 8, 1678. [1][2] Abigail was born at Providence on Sept. 7, 1655 {24: 7: 1655]. [6][3]
He died at Providence on March 3, 1710/11. [6][3][4]
Leaving no will, his widow Abigail administered his estate which was valued at L381. [3] His house was substantial and included 4 or 5 rooms, a barn and lean-to, a workshop for 'loome and gears.' [4]
His widow Abigail was still living on September 9, 1718, when her son James Jr. deeded the northwest corner of the property to her. [4]

Thanks Chris for the nice bio. Usually when I end up completing merges I also have to write a bio (if I didn't before proposing the merge). What a nice surprise.
