Elizabeth was possibly born 5 Jan 1701/02 in New York (Manhattan), New York, the daughter of Zacharie Angevine and Marie Naudin.[1]
Elizabeth (Angevine) Coutant was a daughter of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).
Elizabeth Angevine
Elizabeth Angevine was baptized in the French Protestant Church of New York on 18 Jan 1701/02, to parents Zacarie Angeuine and Marie Naudin, witnessed by André Naudin and Marie Chevallier.[2] Her parents were French Huguenots who emigrated from France to New York and settled in New Rochelle, NY following their marriage.[3]
Elizabeth married Jean Coutant II abt 1722, living in New Rochelle where they farmed and raised their family. Her husband was a lifelong servant within local governance, primarily as Constable of New Rochelle. Copious information is available regarding Jean in New Rochelle Town Records, but little is known of Elizabeth. In a research document on the Coutant family written by R.M. Dean(1987), and posted as an artifact on FamilySearch, author Morgan H. Seacord is quoted as follows:
"Zacharie Angevine's will, October 26, 1739, as by the original recording of it, makes provision for his daughter, Elizabeth Cottong, and son-in-law, John Cottong. This is a form of the name Coutant that was in common use here, even down into the nineteenth century." [4]
The last extrapolated record of a living Elizabeth is the birth of her son, Jacob Coutant, in 1744. She may have had two more sons, John(b.1747) and Zacharie(b.1748), but these are unsourced additions to the above referenced LDS FamilySearch tree and need verification.
Many researchers state her death year as 1749 based on a 1977 published Angevine genealogy, but no vital records or sources for this date are cited.[5]
Although no gravesite has been identified for Elizabeth, she was probably buried near her husband in the Town Cemetery, now called the Old Huguenot Burying Grounds, located in New Rochelle. Graves from this site, most of them unmarked, were moved to Trinity Churchyard in the 1950s.[6]No death record has ever been located for Elizabeth (Angevine) Coutant.
Additional Notes. A Findagrave memorial states she died in 1816 and was interred in the Coutant Cemetery in New Rochelle according to an unnamed family tree, but there is no sourcing to support these claims. This death date is unlikely, as Elizabeth would have been 114 yrs old. It appears Findagrave contributor(s) have confused Elizabeth with her dau., Elizabeth (Coutant) Gerow, resulting in conflation between mother and daughter.[7]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
