Biography

Susan A. Ankrom was born in April of 1861 to Jonathan Ankrom (1835–1908) and Michal (Thomas) Ankrom (1835–1901).[1] She is listed with her parents on both: the 1870 Census[2] and the 1880 Census[3] in Tyler County, West Virginia. In 1895 she married Hiram Ferrell (1858–1925) in Tyler, West Virginia.[4] They are listed together on the 1910 Census[5] and the 1920 Census.[6] Based on the data provided in the census reports and birth records; it is believed that they had at least five children:

  • 1. Flora Ester (Ferrell) Spencer (1896–1981)[7]
  • 2. Rymer Franklin Ferrell (1897–1976)[8]
  • 3. Hattie Michael (Ferrell) Zais (1899–1988)[9]
  • 4. Gladys E. (Ferrell) Male (1901–1970)[10][11]
  • 5. Mr. Ira Homer Ferrell (1904–1965)[12][13][14]

On the 1930 Census she is listed as widowed and living in the home of her daughter Flora (Ferrell) Spencer.[15] Susan passed away in July of 1930 at the age of 69 in Frew, Tyler, West Virginia.[16] She is buried in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville, Tyler County, West Virginia.[17]
