Biography

Research Notes

Per the 1880 US Federal Census, Elizabeth (Anthony) Gurney's parents were both born in New Jersey.

Sources conflict on his birth the family Bible[1] says he was born in 1745 and passed away in 1837. However, the 1850 Census [2]says he was born in 1761, and the 1856 Iowa census puts his birth at 1769. They do all agree that he was born in New Jersey. He passed away after 1856, but I cannot find reliable sources at this time.
Until I can validate further, I'm using 1769, because that is more likely with a death date after 1856 and given his children's ages and his appearance on the 1856 Iowa State Census [3]

Death and Burial

The family Bible says he passed away in Scotland, Missouri. However, I don't believe that's true due to his age on the 1856 Iowa state census,[3] I believe it's more likely that he passed away in Iowa, and is buried somewhere there. However, his wife does appear (as widowed) in Scotland, Missouri in 1860, living with their son, Merritt, so I suppose it's possible he made the trip in his very late years. I do not have an exact place or date, but he passed away between 1856 and 1860.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

Anthony-3600 and Anthony-2090 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same people. I have the family Bible that belonged to his son, Robert Silas Anthony

is there any sources to show that George Anthony is the father of Rhoda Anthony ? I have Rhoda's sister Elizebeth Anthony being born in 1824 and that would make George being 15 years old. They could of had different fathers . This part of the Anthony tree is very well hidden .
