The Herberts of Wales trace their ancestry through Herbert of Winchester, however, there seems to be an issue at this generation. Chronologies of later generations don't seem to quite fit. According to several sources, the son of Reginald or Reynold Fitz Peter and Joan de Vivonne named Peter married Ela Martel and produced only one son Roger who took his mother's name. Many different sources claim that Reginald or Reynold had a son named Peter who married Alice, daughter and heiress to Blethin Broadspere, Lord of Llanlowell, which was then passed on to later Herberts. What seems possible if not probable would be that there was an older Peter FitzReginald who became ancestor to the Herberts who was either of Reginald's first marriage or possibly an illegitimate child, who gained the lordship of Llanlowell by marriage to the heiress of Blethin Broadspere.
