Biography

He is the son of Thomas Applegate and Elizabeth Wall. It appears John and Avis had no children--at least none that survived them. He left his entire estate to his wife Avis, with the remainder to his brother Thomas and Thomas's sons.

His inventory was taken on 7 February 1716/17 after the death of his widow. Joseph Applegate administered the estate.[1]

John Applegate is interred in the Old Burying Ground of Fairfield, Connecticut. The gravestone inscription on his original memorial reads: Here lyes ye, body of John, Applegate, age, 82 years, Died December /9 1712. [2][3] There is also a rededicated memorial installed in 1881 that includes names and death dates for John and several other family members.[3]
