David was born about 1792 in Ocean County to Jacob Applegate and his wife, Mary. His siblings are John B [1], John Daniel, Mary, and Israel.

David's children with Alice Jane Hendricson are Sarah (Horner), Gilbert, Charles, David, Jacob, Joseph, Alice (Warden), Mary, Moses, and Rebecca.

    In the name of God, Amen I David Applegate of the township of Hamilton in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey being of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say. First it is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.
    Item First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Alice Applegate one thousand dollars also all my household goods and furniture of every kind, which said money household goods and furniture shall be entirely subject to her disposal either by gift by sale or by will. But in case the decease of my said wife should take place prior to or about the time of my own then I do order that the special legacy bequeathed to her shall be disposed of and distributed among my children as directed for the balance of my estate.
    I do authorize and direct my executor to sell all my real and personal estate at public auction except the above specified legacy to my said wife and after paying the legacy to my said wife as directed above and all my just debts and the expenses of settling up my estate to equally divide the residue of the proceeds thereof between my ten children viz Sarah Horner Gilbert Applegate Charles Applegate David Applegate Jacob Applegate Joseph Applegate Alice Warden Mary Applegate Moses Applegate and Rebecca Applegate in equal portions share and share alike subject to the directions and conditions herein after specified and in case any one or more of my sons or daughters shall die without leaving lawful issue before the above mentioned division shall have been made then it is my will and I do order that the share or shares so falling to such deceased child or children be equally divided between the surviving ones subject to the following directions and conditions And in case any one or more of my said children should die prior to the division of my estate leaving lawful issue then it is my will and I do order my executors or the survivors of those to pay over the share or shares of such deceased child or children to their respective children or their legal guardians share and share alike.
    And I do further order and direct my executors in case my son Moses Applegate shall be living at the time of the said division or distribution of my estate to put at interest upon good security the share so falling to my said son Moses Applegate the interest of which shall by my executors or the survivors of them be applied to his support and comfort either by paying the interest so accruing to him in hand or by appropriating it to his support and comfort as they my said executors or the survivors of them may deem best calculated to promote the comfort and well being of him the said Moses Applegate. And in case the said interest or income arising from such said share so invested shall at any time be found insufficient for his support and comfort then I do order my executors or the survivors of them to apply so much of the principal of such said share so invested as shall be sufficient for that purpose. And at the death of the said Moses Applegate the balance of his said invested share and the interest accrued thereon and unapplied as above directed after paying the necessary funeral expenses of the said Moses Applegate shall be by my executors or the survivors of them paid to the lawful issue of the said Moses Applegate or their legal guardians in equal shares. But in case the said Moses Applegate shall die without lawful issue then I do order that the said unapplied balance or remainder shall be distributed by my executors or the survivors of them among my children or their legal representatives following the directions for the original distribution of my estate as nearly as may be.
    Lastly I hereby appoint my sons David Applegate and Jacob Applegate executors of this my last will and testament
