Frederick was a son of George F. Appleton and Amelia Z. Sickelmore. He was born in 1881 in New York. He married Ruth in 1905 and had a son, George Frederick Appleton. The couple divorced in 1923. He married Mrs. Mable L. Angelo Spindle before 1924. Mabel and he had three children. He died in 1947.[1]

Dr. F. O. Appleton, 65, Nearly 28 Years a Dentist Here, Dies
Dr. Frederick Otto Appleton, 65, Washington dentist for nearly 28 years, died yesterday at his home, 1210 North Hartfort street, Arlington, after a long illness.
Dr. Appleton, a native of Haverstraw, N. Y., was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. George F. Appleton. After attending school in New York he moved to Washington an received his degree in dentistry from the Georgetown Dental School. He maintained offices in the Barr Building until his retirement because of ill health early this year.
Dr. Appleton was a past master of Masonic Lodge No. 285 of Arlington, and had been for several years chairman of the De Molay advisory council. He also belonged to the Acca Temple in Richmond, the Virginia Consistory in Alexandria and the Shrine Club. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Arlington.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mabel Angelo Appleton; three sons, George F., Fredrick and Robert Appleton; a step-son, Francis Spindle, and a daughter, Miss Shirley Ann Appleton, all of Arlington; and three brothers, Clarence, Joseph and Lyman Appleton of New York.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the Ives funeral home, 2847 Wilson boulevard, Arlington, with burial in Columbia Gardens Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at the grave with past masters of the lodge and De Molay officers serving as honorary pall bearers.
