Susan (Susie) Abigale Ard was born on October 1, 1861 in Santa Rosa, County, Florida.[1] Susie was one of four children born to John and Harriet Ard. [2] Her father, John Green Ard died in the Civil War in March of 1864. His burial place is unknown. Her mother Harriet Davis who may have been a Creek Indian [3] later married William Watkins Ellis.[4] Susie married William Dennis Cook April 21, 1877 in Santa Rosa County, Florida.[5] By 1880 Susie and William had three children, William Noah born in 1878, and twins Ann and john born in 1879. Another set of twins, Mollie and Katie arrived in 1881. By 1900 Susie and William had added seven more children to their household. [6] Their youngest child, Doll was born in 1902. They had a total of thirteen children, eight sons and five daughters. Suzie and William had been married more than sixty-two years when he died on September 29, 1939. [7] Susie lived a few more weeks until her death November 3, 1939. She is buried in Elizabeth Chapel Church Cemetery in Chumuckla, Florida. [8]
