Biography

VIRGINIA SAVAGE ARMISTEAD, daughter of Rev. Robert Augustine Armistead & Martha Anne Savage, was born October 11,1911 in Hampton, Virginia (James Knox Polk's 2nd year as 11th U.S.President). On November 30,1870 she married Asher Waterman Garber in Richmond,Virginia. They had no children. Virginia (Armistead) Garber authored the book "The Armistead Family: 1635-1910". She died, probably in Richmond,Virginia, August 19,1933 (Franklin D Roosevelt's 1st year as 32nd President). Virginia Armistead Garber is buried in Hollywood Cemetery with her husband of 41 years
Author of "The Armistead Family (1635-1910)." Whittet & Shepperson, Printers, Richmond 1910. One of the most complete studies of the Armistead family. Not usable by the casual reader due to its readability, but it has proved itself to be accurate, if great care is taken in interpreting its content. (Doug Zimmerman)
