Philip lived at the family home, Armitage Plantation, which was built by his grandfather, Francis L. Mead. Phillip was engaged to Sallie Winder, his sister Ella's best friend and was working to build a home for them. He contracted pneumonia and when his sister Ellen Armitage Billiu came to tend to him, she caught pneumonia and died. According to the Lafourche Parish land records, Phillip participated in 14 land transactions between 3/12/1881-7/24/1881. He died in September, 1881. The 1880 US Census, 2nd Ward, Terrebonne, Louisiana, states his occupation as Lawyer. Buried St. John's Cemetery, Thibodaux, LA. His mother's maiden name was Sargent, which is his middle name.
