History of Cole Co., Missouri, pg. 250
On May 18, 1846, the Cole Co. volunteers under Col. Stone, with Lucius J. Easton, captain; Alex Irvine, first; and W.Z. Angney, second lieutenant, were reviewed by the governor and adjutant-general. The call for volunteers for the field was responded by 76 men, who were enrolled and moved to St. Louis, where they received orders to return to their homes. This command was known as Cole Infantry. It was subsequently mustered in with Phil. Kearney's division, of which Col. Doniphan's regiment formed a part under Gen. Sterling Price, in July, 1846. The officers were retained, with Angney, captain, and William Butts, W.H. Ferguson and John J. Wright, sergeants; D.W.G. Hicks, John B. Hart, W.G. Hoge and L.F. Bradley, corporals. Of the 53 private soldiers: F.T. ARMITAGE (was listed)
