Hinsdale married, April 23, 1833 at Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont, Theda Butterfield (1807-1870) by whom he had two children (2 sons): Robert Bruce (1834-1901) and Edwin Herbert (b. 1838). Both served Vermont in the Civil War.

Arms-135 and Arms-74 are not ready to be merged because: Conflicting information. The Arms Family Genealogical record shows on page 18 shows Hinsdale to be the son of Capt John Arms b.Aug 11, 1776 d. Sep 17, 1841. Also Capt John Arms son of Josiah (page 11) b. Mar 17, 1750 d. 1803. Josiah son of Major John Arms, page 8.
