Biography

Elenora was born on February 27, 1880, in Nevada, Missouri. She was the daughter of William B. Armstrong and Olive Terpening.

Elenora Armstrong was known as Lenora and is noted as such in most records.

On February 24, 1904, she married Shelvy Rhodes in Montgomery County, Illinois.^[1]

She passed away on July 4, 1942, in Mason City, Mason County, Illinois.

1910 - United States Federal Census - In the 1910 federal census, Shelby Rhodes, 27, is living in North Litchfield township, Montgomery County, Illinois, with his wife, Lenora, 28, and their two daughters, Lorine Rhodes, 5, and Olive Rhodes, 2. Shelby is listed as farming.^[2]

1920 - United States Federal Census - In the 1920 census, Leanora M. Rhodes, 38, is living as the head of household in Litchfield Ward 4, Montgomery County, Illinois, with her two daughters, Lorine M. Rhodes, 14, and Olive A. Rhodes, 12. Leanora is listed as married (although her husband Shelvy, who is enumerated in Florida, is listed as divorced.).^[3]

1940 - U.S. Federal Census - In 1940, Charles E. Sommers, 40, was a wholesale salesman, living in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. Living with his were his wife, Lorine, 35, and children, Charles E., Jr, 14, Patricia R., 11 and Mary Jane, 9. Also in the household is his 64-year old mother-in-law, Lenora Rhodes.^[4]
